Hope Technocity
Hope City & Biomedical Park

Hope Technocity Limited is currently in the process of developing a new urban development to be known as the “Hope City & Biomedical Park” on a 120 acre piece of land on the outskirts of Kisumu City, in Western Kenya. To be executed in phases, the mixed development project when complete, will host a medical school, complete with the required amenities and facilities, a hotel and conference center, residential housing, a high school and primary school complex. 

Proposed Development

When complete, is expected to host about 7,000 students and teaching staff, and will comprise the following:

2,000 residential housing units

of various sizes to accommodate various cadres of staff. Some of the residential units will be available for outright sale, while some units will be reserved for housing university staff. Land allocated to residential housing is approximated at 10 acres.

A commercial center with mixed retail

with various shops, restaurants. Above the shopping level, will be offices for rent. The offices can also serve medical consultants admitting patients at the hospital. The commercial center will also include a 60 bed hotel with conferencing facilities (3 to 4 star rating). The commercial center will be positioned in such a way that it is also be open to the surrounding community outside the university. To sit on about 10 acres.

Student accommodation for about 3,000 students

together will associated recreational facilities e.g. music rooms, fully equipped gymnasium etc. Accommodation to include a common dining hall. No cooking will be allowed in the student hostels. The hostels will be designed to accommodate 4 students per room and a cluster of 20 rooms to have common washroom and shower facilities. The possibility of included coin operated pay as you go laundry services should also be considered.

Light biomedical manufacturing

The project will include provision for light medical related manufacturing e.g. a plant for infusion fluids, syringes, pharma etc.

A medical campus

with a 350 bed hospital “The Hope Teaching Hospital” including an administration block (to also serve as the administrative headquarters of the university), lecture halls, student center etc. The medical campus will host the Clinical, Medical, Physiotherapy and Nursing departments, together with a state of the art medical library and associated infrastructure. The teaching hospital and the medical campus to occupy 30 acres. (5 acres to be set aside for a sports complex – a rugby & football pitch, a clubhouse, indoor basketball, netball and volleyball courts. An Olympic size swimming pool with diving boards. The sports complex to include facilities for squash and tennis. The open pitch and running track will be designed to accommodate spectators.)

Comprehensive Educational Campuses: High School & Primary School Developments

Two 15-acre campuses, one for high school and one for primary school (each ~1,000 students), are planned as self-contained educational communities. Both prioritize a holistic learning experience with academics, extracurriculars, and boarding. The high school includes specialized labs, music rooms, workshops, classrooms, boarding, admin block (offices, library, hall), a sports center, and an outdoor theater. Boarding houses will have separate dining served by a central kitchen. The primary school (Grades 1-8, Kenyan curriculum) will house students in clusters of 40, with nearby dining halls also served by a central kitchen. Both designs emphasize comprehensive facilities for academic, social, and physical development within spacious, organized settings tailored to their respective age groups.

The Location

The project is located in Kisumu, the fourth largest city in Kenya. Located in Western Kenya, the project is positioned to served the educational, medical and hospitality need of the East Africa region. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Eastern DRC etc.

The Community

On opening, the education wing of the project expects to host over 3, 000 students
from all over Kenya and the region. Some of the students will be housed on campus.

Role in the Comminity

Once opened, the City and biomedical park will create a platform for education, hospitality and health services, social services, creating jobs , impacting skills and bringing much needed investment to the Lake City of Kisumu.
